What Happens When…

As promised when I left you hanging at the end of my September 19th blog titled, “Paperback, Kindle, E-book, or...”, I’m picking up where I left off…or to state it more eloquently, or not, I’m going to dish the dirt about what happens when…To make this easier for me to write and you, the reader, to understand I’m talking about what happens after you, me, or any published author pulls the plug on the publisher. And believe me there are tails aplenty. For example, the publisher may tell you that though the contract is terminated your book or books whichever the case may be will still appear on the booksellers website since they have a right to keep it there and may need to if readers want to resell the book you wrote through the same dot com they bought it, and of course they have a right to do that.

However, there are those publishers who may insist that they cannot remove the book they published from your author page since it was the dot com that put it there.

Checking with the on-line bookseller and you may be told that since they didn’t publish or put the book there the publisher that you no longer have a relationship with has to do this.

At this point you might want to buy a gun and go hunting for…But, I suggest you remember that when all else fails one needs to overlook the issue and forge ahead as if it didn’t exist.

For writers like me who thought being published was the easy way out my last comment may seem absurd especially when they remember that they pulled the contract so they could do just that…be in charge. However, being in charge of something you cannot change but desperately believe you can robs you of achieving what the publisher could not.

Therefore, it is critical before you consider becoming part of the paper chase rather than an author whose paperbacks are selling well, that you realize that leaving one situation does not insure that the next one will be better. It does however, insure that what you do with the pitfalls you experience along the way will either break or make you. And here, as Pastor Leland would say, “Is the golden nugget!" For I now know this isn’t about becoming an author it’s about becoming authentically you no matter what!

Linda M. Donnelly called this political satire, ”A unique and entertaining perspective of the United States’ political scene as viewed through the lens of religion, pop-culture, and the authors personal experiences presented in a thought-provoking look at our country yesterday, today and possibility tomorrow.”

About the Author
Paula Rose Michelson began her writing career at the age of fifteen when this reluctant teen was told by her mother that she would be writing a weekly ‘Teen Scene’ column for a local San Diego paper. Thinking it a joke, Paula soon discovered that her mother was serious when she found herself making phone calls and researching events she did not attend so she could write about them. The difficulties of being edited by a mom, who was trying to show her that she could write, made this task stressful. Weekly, when asked if she’d like to read her Friday column, the teenager shook her head and from that day to this wonders if she made it all up. Yet years later, when lauded as a writer of merit for writing about choices, their consequences, and her passion for becoming that’s found within each book and is the one word that defines her, Paula was heard to say, “Where would any of us be if it weren’t for choices made and lessons learned?”

Known by those in recovery as the author of the LAMB Ministry 7X7 Recovery books, and by fiction lovers as the author of sweet Christian romance with a Messianic twist and a hint of history, her Naomi Chronicles are a continuation of Naomi’s faith journey which readers fall in love with when they read Books 1 & 2 of the ‘Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing’ Saga.

A Messianic Jew, the wife of Chosen People Ministries Field Missionary, and Lutheran Pastor, Ron Michelson, and one who writes to fulfill the Great Commission, Paula has seen God change lives when people believe in and call upon Him. This mother of two married daughters, Paula is the grandmother of seven.

  2. Kim,

I really appreciated your comment, so much so, that I visited your blog and wanted to follow but couldn't figure out how to do that. Philanthropy is so near and dear to me that my hero in The Naomi Chronicles is a philanthropist whose Crossroads International helps the needy in third world countries. Because I needed to discover how he would terminate his involvement when the time came, I contacted Claire Gaudiani adjunct professor at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for American Values. She found the question interesting since that's not been done before. I have her open invitation to contact her once I need to brainstorm about this issue. In the meanwhile, I find myself vicariously enjoying the generosity of Naomi and her husband Chaz, who like you, me and my husband, Lutheran Pastor and Chosen People Field Missionary, Ron Michelson strive to make this a better world for many.
